7 Deadly Sins of Boat Maintenance

Sea Ray sent my latest quarterly magazine with an article on cleaning
materials to avoid. What do you think about their statements?

Disclaimer: Yacht Brite is mentioned several times so it may be a Sea Ray
product or it may be a product they just happen to believe in.

1. Dish Soap: Harmful to fiberglass. Try Yacht Brites Brite Wash instead.

2. Windex: Harmful to plastic. Unless your windows are made of glass, try
Yacht Brites Serious shine.

3. Paper Towels: Too harsh for Isinglass and windshields. Try washable
microfiber towels.

4. Not important.

5. Soft Scrub: Too abrasive. Try Yacht Brites Pro Polish to clean, seal,
and polish fiberglass and gel coat surfaces.

6. Pledge: Damages Isinglass. See no. 2.

7. Procrastination and Neglect. Even a quick rinse is better than nothing.
Break boat chores into small projects.

1. Dish soap removes wax... I agree. I use Woody's Boat Wash

2. Used it for many years and never had an issue.....disagree

3. Same as #2....disagree

4. Agree this is unimportant

5. Agree.... I use Magic Eraser

6. Same as #2 ....disagree

7. I was going to wash the boat but I read this newsgroup instead

I think it is an advertisement for Yacht Brite products. ;-)

Uh, yeah, I was beginning to get that feeling. There are all sorts of
soaps out there that don't strip off wax. I use one with lots of water
and big soft sponges. Works fine on everything.

Uh no, harmful to the wax, yes. You'd only be using that if you wanted to
remove the wax. Presumably to apply a fresh coat immediately afterward.

The rest is just spam. There are plenty of boat specific cleaning materials
out there instead of that one.
