Ever own a Galaxy transciever or one of the NCRs? |

I still have the S-line gear. Post service, Swan 500C which was 'da bomb for the time. I also added a Drake TR-4CW along the way. After that, Kenwood Twins, Kenwood transcievers and eventually settling on Yaesu. |

My first transmitter was a Heatkkit DX-40 which I built when I was 12 years old. http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/4093 I graduated to a nice pair of Drake TR4 twins in the early 70s which I still have stashed away in boxes somwhere. |

My first transmitter was a Heatkkit DX-40 which I built when I was 12 years old. http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/4093 Yeah - the radio club when I was in high school built two Heathkit transmitters, but I can't remember which ones. I built a 6 and 10 meter pair of lunch boxes which, as you may know, required 260Vdc (or was it ac - can't remember) and Heathkit designed a vibrator kit for 12 volt input. Damn vibrator power supply for a, in theory portable, radio was heavy and bigger than the radio it was supposed to power. :) Man, those were the days. I graduated to a nice pair of Drake TR4 twins in the early 70s which I still have stashed away in boxes somwhere. Those were nice radios. Up until a couple of years ago, I had an R7. I sold it to a guy who lost his in a house fire. Got a pretty sum for it too. I still fire up the S-line from time to time - I changed and balanced the finals three or four years ago with Russian tubes - damn thing still runs like it was new. The KWM-2 needs some help - there's a guy over in Pomfret who rebuilds Collins gear - I will probably give it to him and let him restore it. Main radio here is an FT-1000D with all the goodies and an FT-900 w/external DSP as a standby radio. I don't do any UHF/VHF anymore (not like I did anyway) so I only have ICOM handhelds with some homebrew bricks for extra power when I need it. The TH-11 is still in the air - that's probably the most amazing part of the station. :) |
