Dean Fairburn of Boise ID died of foot entrapment(?) in class 4
Staircase rapid the weekend before last:

It's a tragedy all around, but his having just qualified to race
the Iditarod (dogsled across Alaska) is what gets to me.

Years ago also on the South Fork Payette, Walt Blackadar died,
in a narrow spot upstream with a log stuck underwater.
