why go boating

ok here's a topic that will open a big discussion: why do you go
boating?

i've done both powerboating and sailing...helped a friend deliver a
sailboat from baltimore to block island...wonderful, wonderful
experience

and i used to have a 26' cruiser on the chesapeake...enjoyed the feel
of the wind, the speed...the ability to explore places 50 miles away
and approach them from the water (up the patapsco to baltimore for
example).

even a little bowrider on the local lakes here in dallas offers a
great deal of fun...

and, as a ham i've talked to sailboaters all over the world who cruise
at 5 kts between the marquesas and san franscisco...enjoying every
moment of their trip.

so what's your reason for boating? why'd you choose the boat you did?
what's your best and worst trip?

Reason #1: Fishing and Tubing with the kids.
Reason #2: Always wanted a 1:1 Chris Craft. The Boat I chose has
excellent "rough water" ability. The price was right.Love the feel of
the wind in my face while standing with head above the Windshield at
full speed.
Best Trip: Last week when we caught some nice Rainbow Trout.
Worst Trip: Have'nt had one yet.

Because it's fun, pure and simple.

why'd you choose the boat you did?

First boat, because I was young, had the money, ended up being a
dissapointment. Old 1964 27' CC Cavalier, didn't know it was infested
with wood rot, and it fell a part after a couple seasons. It was a
blast while it lasted, but no real bang for the buck.

Second 1983 CC 169 Scorpion. It was a good deal, had a blast with it.
140 hp mercruiser 4 cyl. great for putting around a lake all day on no
gas. Small and cramped and doesn't handle rough water very well, but I
got it for a bargian and still have it. Took it out on June 30. still
runs and looks new. "well, almost"

3rd, 1977 23' Marquis cuddy. Got even a better deal on it than the
little CC. 350 chevy, plenty of power, plenty of room, doesn't do bad
on fuel, as long as you don't pile drive it all day. Cuddy is kind of
cramped, but nice ride, nice boat, Something worthy of taking a nice
river cruise in.

what's your best and worst trip?

Too much to list, in little time.
