Oil injection
How do you know it's really working? I'd hate to seize an engine. I
remember when they first went to this on jet skis and guys were blocking them off for pre-mix. Never had an OB with oil injection before. Subject is a 1987 Mercury 135. John |
Oil injection
I considered that but was curious if there is a way of doing it now
since the oil tank is already filled. There is an oil tank in the boat and one on the inside of the outboards cowling at the top. All new to me. Thanks John wrote in message ... John I carefully marked the tank in 1 pint increments. (do it as you fill the tank) and checked it against the numbers of 6 gallon cans of gas. It will actually be a bit less if your motor uses variable feed but it is a good sanity check. Pretty soon you just get a gut feel for how much oil you should be using. |
Oil injection
is it using oil? Should be.

Compare drops/min to manual spec. What do you mean you don't have a service manual??? db |

Do they put that in the manual? I have it on cd (pdf), but the manual
covers 15 years of motors. And its the mercury manual. "D-unit" cof42_AT_earthlink.net wrote in message ... "Midlant" wrote in message ... How do you know it's really working? When I had Yamaha's, there was a procedure outlined in the manual that called for so many drops/min out of the feed tube to the engine. This tube was only about 1/8th" i.d. The engine was a 6 cylinder so it had 6 tubes running from the oil pump. Pretty easy to pull one off and watch it drip. Unfortunately, I gave the manual to the new owner of that boat when I sold it so I have no point of reference. I would think as long as its using *some* oil when running, you should be ok. You could add some oil to the gas just to be safe until you verify. db |
