Lyman? You said Lyman? Beautiful boats. I grew up where they were built.

I've been off work the past two days in anticipation of a boat trip to the
Keys. Wind is blowing 20-25 knots out of the east, stacking the seas up 7-10 feet. Getting down there isn't a problem, because I can hug the coast line where seas are less than 2'. But who wants to sit on a boat at a dock for 3 days, when your goal is to go fishing? We're leaving tomorrow...and staying through Tuesday instead of Monday. Seas are predicted to be 4-6 feet, which isn't great...but my freezer is bare. "JimH" wrote in message ... .........thunderstorms have hit us, with rain forecast for the next few days. ;-( |

We have lived in Avon Lake for the past 15 years (my wife grew up here and depending how old you are her father may have been your teacher or football coach at AL High) and docked at Copper Kettle some 20 years ago. We drove past that marina yesterday and the slips are mainly empty. Va. Beach is a great area. My wife's brother lived there for years while serving in Norfolk (a Commander of an aircraft carrier) and we visited there many times. |

Thanks! I appreciate that. Might give it a try, especially the slow cooker method.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Have had the McCormic spice pack in with grrrrr, shoulder meat, but it smells teriffic. Still a little tough, needs a few more hours but it is starting to taste good. I should note in the slow cooker, the fluid/ sauce should only be at the bottom of the thing, thick and should not cover the meat completely. Right now I have about 3 pounds of meat and probably 1 1/2 cups of sauce, stir here and there. Another note, this is a pretty good substitute for BBQ but not like doing it on a grill or smoker. Going out now to start the ribs, check you later. |

We did this 4 or 5 times last year after he received his boating safety certification (via in class USCG Power Squadron). After this refresher lesson he will be ready to take the boat out on his own...........he earned it after 15 years of watching and learning from me at the helm of our various boats. We took the boat out as planned. My son was at the helm the entire time and had a flawless performance. He wants just one more time with me and then he feels he will be ready to be out on his own with his friends. It was a great day on the water today! Time to cook the ribeyes.........yum, yum. |

Saw "Pulled Pork" on the menu and had trouble not cracking wise about it since the office crowd is always PC now. I did point it out to the guys but they were too afraid to even snicker. Or maybe they thought I was a pervert - hard to tell. I thought about asking the gal across from me - I would try to keep a straight face - if she had any experience with "Pulled Pork", but just kept my mouth shut. It wasn't easy though. Seems to me a stupid menu item, but then maybe I've just got a dirty mind. No, I never tried it, and I don't have a recipe. --Vic |

Today it was so blasted windy! The lake would have been miserable. Well, I haven't gotten my titles transfered over ont he 23' Marquis yet, AND it just so happened that my sticker on the Chris Craft ran out in '06. So Friday I call the local Natural Resources office, to see what I could do and got an answering machine. Seems like they are only open half days from Monday through THURSDAY! GRRRRRR! So, being license challenged,a nd questionable weather for tomorrow, I'm going to sulk about heading for the lake. But looks like I'll be bbqing about 6 lb. of chicken and a few lbs of burgers and brats for my my wife, daughter, son's family, as well as my brother's family as well. Oh, and I can't forget dear old Dad too. We'll get by. Yeah, yesterday I took dad on our semi-anual trip to plant at the cemeteries. We always have a cool time together, yesterday we did 8 gravestones. Today I have a full plate. Start by deciding weather to make a guy an offer on the Whaler, (it is stickered, and on a trailer pointed straight at the lake) start a pot of pulled pork, start the grill and do ribs with (got some fresh apple and hickory wood ready for the grill) play with boat engines, rerack a recently brewed dark ale, and brew up 5 more gallons of austrailian ale for summer, may even drink a couple in the afternoon. Anyway, thanks dad, and anyone else who served my country, happy memorial day. Don't drink and drive, drink and stay put! How do you do a pot of pulled pork. I've cooked a shoulder on the Weber 'til the meat falls off the bone, but never done it in a pot.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - You can do it a couple of ways. quick stove top way is to simply add meat, spices, broth and simmer it till it's done, drain, fork off bone, return to pot with bbq sauce and spices, or steamed veggies, or whatever, simmer till hot, serve. Today is the better method, the crock pot, I am king of the crock pot! Beans and meat rule. Anyway take a shoulder or a butt and bone it (saves room too in the pot) add sauce and spices and cook on low setting till it's done. Start in morning, eat after work or cook overnight, turn off in morning, turn pot back on on hour before dinner. Sometimes we will add to, and keep a bean stew going in the pot for a day or two. Other day a lady at the meat counter suggested we try the McCormick slow cooker spice pack for pulled pork, I will let you know how it works out, looks interesting. Have a great day, thanks vets. Thanks! I appreciate that. Might give it a try, especially the slow cooker method.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Hey John, try the McCormick package I noted earlier, it is real good, blew us all away. We ate it all, nice blend of spices. Not quite authentic, but better than anything I ever expected out of a package. Later, no more about meat, just boats. Now I am back to powering up my Brockway, and getting a bigger trailer so it will be easier to handle. If I can get it up on plane, it will do everything I need it to do. I am starting to see a lot of low to midrange 20 footers on the net, I should be able to find something I can make work. Later, me. |
