That's just it. I didn't single you out yet you felt compelled to
retaliate.
Take one step back and get a broader perspective. Who has done all the
name calling so far in this thread? ("snark" "a**hole" "netcop", etc)
First clue- it isn't me. :-)

My comment was on your general snottiness and snarkiness. I'm not
concerned whether you "single" me or anyone else out. Several posters
here, more than several, actually, have watched your devolution with
some sadness, and a few have commented on it. It's hard to believe that
you don't see yourself engaging in the precise sort of behavior for
which you castigate others. That you may or may not name names in a
particular post is not relevant, nor is the language you or others use.

And a lot of posters here, well maybe only several, or maybe just a few,
think you're a real neat guy!

Anyway, to keep this on track, back in the early 80's when big wooden
boats were a dime a dozen, and most of my friends could not afford to
take them out of the slip we used to say, the smaller the boat, the
more boating you get out of it. I must admit I get a little ticked off
when some old snot looks down his nose at my boat and crew. Just don't
get it, some of them. That video is what boating is all about, period.
I think folks should try to find the positive in all posts, take from
the group what they can, and not ideology get in the way of a good
time.

I wonder if your perceptions are real or imagined. I thought about your
statement about the "old snot" who looks down his nose ....

In the many years that we have been involved in boating, I can't think of a
single example of any boater, in any size boat "looking down his nose" at
someone in another boat that is smaller, cheaper or whatever. To the
contrary, I've seen people who exhibit respect for other's boating interest,
regardless of how expensive or big or small and cheap. Sometimes they are
more well intentioned and helpful than you might want them to be.

I *have* witnessed the time honored distain for blowboaters versus power and
visa-versa and for obnoxious jet ski operators. I've also noticed that
sailboaters tend to be more critical of another's craft. (check
alt.sailing.asa for examples). I don't see that with powerboaters.

I think you make a good point, sailboaters, yeah, and maybe not so old
either. Probably not the right words to use. But the more I think
about it, you are right.

I think it's psychological.

If you are in a small boat in close proximity to a large flybridge
powerboat, it is easy to imagine that the folks on the large boat are
"looking down at you". They are of course, in a very real sense, but
that does not by itself indicate disdain or disapproval.

A thousand apologies, your holiness.
ps: I gave up on the notion of becoming a man of the cloth. Too expensive.

I've always been treated well by others when I was at the marina.

Even the sail boat guys.

I used this logic to convince my wife a boat was a good way for the
family to have fun together. Our youngest still loves to invite her
friends up for a day on the lake.

This reminds me - About four years ago when my Paw was dieing of cancer
we got out the old 8mm silent movie projector he had from the 50's. It
was color which was pretty hi-teck for it's day. Well we watched lots of
those old reels. most of them followed us growing up going to different
lakes around Missouri.

His little stailess steel fishing boat. The old 7.5 Evinrude and our
first speed boat, a 1970 trihull made by a company called Beachcraft. It
had a 165 merc. Man he was proud of that boat.

Thanks for bringing that memory back.
