Looks like GoogleGroups is in the tank for me.

I don't really know whats going on, but Google Groups is doing some
very wierd things.

I'm posting this message, but find out I won't be able to access it
within 12-24 hrs. ... or longer.

anybody else using Google for access to rec.boats or other groups
having the same problem?

Interesting to note, I won't be able to read this post or any replies
for a day or so.

I wonder if anything has changed in my "Preferences"?

I had the same problem for a couple of days. Seems to be better now.
Maybe they're doing something with regional servers? Frankly don't
know if that makes any sense or not- but the problem that you're
describing was very apparent a couple of days ago in this area.

Maybe regional, but I have always had a 4-12 hour delay. This is going
back at least a year or more.

Funny, for the first time in my history, my posts are showing up right
away. Within minutes, don't think I have ever had post come up faster
than 4-5 hours.

Tim,

Start with teranews.com. They have a free server or you can get 30GB
per year for $29.95 and access to their premium servers which also
include support and have a very long retention rate. Binaries are
supported on both plans.

I tried Google Groups after Earthlink went down and found it to be a
PITA to navigate.

Yeah, I know. You do get what you pay for, but seeing I usually post
only in rec.boats, or affiliates and occasionally alt. guitar. bass or
alt.guitar.rickenbacker.

I still don't hink it's really that benefifcial [at least at this
venture] to pay to read USNET.

But, Terranews, and Easynews come highly recommended, so.......

Why not use Outlook Express to access NG's? It's free.

To do so, his ISP has to provide a news service or he needs to subscribe to
one like Giganews or one of the others. Not all ISP's offer a news server.
