Water coming out of shift shaft when running engine on muffs.

Help anyone!

Should there be water coming out around the shift shaft where it comes
out the top of the lower unit on my 2000 90hp Mercury 2 stroke when I am
running it on muffs in the driveway?

Are you sure it isn't just coming out of the water pump housing?
Turn the water flow down a bit.
As a sanity check, look at the foot oil and see if there is water in
there.
