More on Vista.........

Every time MS comes out with a new version of Windoze, there are
"compatibility" issues. VISTA is no different.

You may be right. I tested XP as well, and could not load that sucker on my
machines fast enough when it went RTM. Vista was a whole different
experience... to me and many other testers.

I'm glad to hear that you aren't having any problems.

So I could not even get Microsoft Money to install on my vista machine
(Toshiba Sattelite, Vista home premium). The autorun would not even
start. Had to remove Microsoft Money Essentials (worthless teaser
software) to get 06 to even install. Then could not sign in. While
trying to sign in it would just stop the program and tell me it was
looking for a solution, right. Anyway, if you have this problem, go to
the sign in screen and click on the upper left where it says file, and
make a new file, this solved the problem. Once you are signed in the
first time, you should have no problems.
Just some observations.
We non-technogeeks are pretty spoiled. We just expect stuff to work
without requiring the operator to stand on one foot, light a red
candle, and chant.
The availability of complex work-arounds for the more bizarre
characteristics of VISTA still doesn't make the system as functional
as the XP it is supposed to replace.
Aside from the fact that some of the most popular nav software isn't
compatible with VISTA, (at least not yet), there is some basis for an
impression that MS rushed this product to market without first ironing
out all of the bugs. At least with Dell offering the XP machines once
again, boaters ready to replace a navigation computer have an option
to get proven, reliable technology.
Chuck, you ought to be writing about subjects you know you don't know
anything about. Your computer OS ramblings are embarrassing.

I know quite a bit about the impression that VISTA is making on the
general, computer consuming public. I are one. :-)

Like I said, most of us just expect stuff to work without having to
select "compatability" choices, unload other installed on the same
computer, etc.

Red candle?

Crap - I've been using the green candle.

Damn candles...

Heck I just use a bag of old chicken bones I got from a gypsy
And I think I am a technogeek guy, But not a mircosoft one, they don't
really exist :-)

Color depends on which side of the puter you place the candles.

Making a new file is NOT a bizarre workaround.

No contemporary OS with which I am familiar has "all" its bugs ironed.

Making a new file is a bizarre work around. When I supplied end user
software I was expected to install and load without any extra required from
the operator other than agree to the terms and what directory to install in
or to change the directory if they wanted. If DEC or IBM brought out a new
OS, the old program installed and ran. It is not that hard to allow dynamic
link libs to work with a new OS. And that is all a driver is.

Use the green candle?

You need to use the red candle. Red on the left, Green on the right side
of the computer. Same as the boat and if you're going up river. Which it
seems as if Vista is causing you to go against the current.

Damn incantations. You need a grimoire just to boot Vista up.
