Spent the day running around on Lake Murray - man that lake has come up in level a lot - at least ten/twelve feet. Nice and cool outside at the moment - beautiful. To hell with the wife, I'm moving as soon as I can. :) Were you around Jakes Landing? I pulled the pontoon out of its slip and put it on the trailer about 6:30 today. Took it to the mechanic to get the spring service done, so I'll have it back next week. When I was idling from the slip to the ramp, I nearly turned around and took off down the lake it was so nice. The wife wouldn't have appreciated that... she was waiting with the trailer at the ramp. I am slammed at work this week. No time to think about meeting somewhere for lunch. Maybe on your next trip down, huh? Have fun! 10-4 - probably another couple of weeks. We'll hook up then. It was gorgeous out this morning - I was amazed on the difference when I launched over at the state ramp - got plenty of water now. I brought down the Princecraft for my son to use this summer. Next time, It's the Ranger. Yep... it's full pool now. Dam remediation is over, now on to road construction. Why does it take longer to build a 4-lane road than to build a back-up dam?!? Let me know... we'll discuss types of food, and I'll find a good place in Lexington to have lunch. Enjoy your stay! |

That was a good place to eat. Excellent Dungeness crab. We use to put in at Jake Landing and go over there by boat. Jakes was only five minutes from our house on Old Cherokee road. Capt Jack R.. |

Ok, maybe five at the outside. :) And that leaves 3 or 4 months when the weather is really decent. I can tell you from personal experience that living on a boat really heightens your awareness of the need to head south after September, and arriving much before the end of June isn't a good thing either. |

It's a shame. We keep our boat at Jake's. Archie is still an ass. The Lighthouse is still there. It's the marina/bar/restaurant to the left of Lake Murray Marina. We're up Corley Mill from the lake. The development around here is out of control. Highway 378 from Lexington to I-20 is solid... wall-to-wall. They're building a Target with several other stores including a Best Buy out there. Where did you end up? |

Work moved me to Atlanta, Or should I say I left NCR to persue a job here. I was working at the NCR site that was near the airport. It's been about 9 years since we left there. I use to love Columbia for it's small town feel. I think it took me 20 minutes to get from Old Cherokee to work. We had a house built that we still consider the best house we have had. Sad to hear about the building boom. Lexington was such a peaceful place then. Weekend trips to Charleston and the beaches use to be a regular tradition for use. And we floated the Saluda from just below the dam to Radio lane a couple of times. Man what a nice piece of river. when you are on it you could not tell you were in the middle of town. I think there was only one place where there was a plant that had a pump pulling water out of it. And the smallmouth bass and trout fishing was great. Atlanta is just to darn big, but you gotta do what ya gotta do. One thing that was really funny. We had purchased a Crownline cuddy cabin boat at Mid Carolina marine in 96. Well since I have been here until about two years ago we kept the boat at a marina on Lanier. I had my boat serviced at a place called Boating Atlanta. Last year I was looking for a pontoon boat and went by there to see what they had. they had a new salesman and he was the same guy I had purchased my boat in Columbia from. At first I could not recall his name and we just stopped and looked at each other. After about 10 seconds he says. "Ok what did I sell you" I told him and we had a good laugh about what a small world it has been. I have to admit I am hoping I will not have to move again. I am from St.Louis, moved to Dayton for about four years. Then Columbia for about five. And now we have been in Atlanta just getting past 9 years. St.Louis will always be home. But Columbia was the best place we have been since we left. Cheers: Capt Jack R. |
