Hi All!
I'm excited. We just agreed to buy a bayliner 1995 bayliner 1600 Capri LS. It's 16ft long, comes with a trailer, motor (force 70) and actually works! Got it for a song, so I figure it's a good way to get into boating and to learn. there are 2 problems with the hull. The Gel coating was damaged in 2 small areas. And the floor boards are "spongy" in an area. How hard is this stuff to fix? The previous owner has been using a piece of plywood to lay over the floor. But it's not rotted through, just soft. Hard/necessary to replace the flooring? How about the gelcoating? Hrd to repair? The owner said I could just do a fiberglass patch over it, but I'd like to hear how to do it right. Thanks for any help! Brian\ BTW, got it for $1250.00 |

Then again, Chuck would probably claim that you underpaid by at least $8,000. What provokes your ridiculous personal remarks? Certainly isn't anything I post about you- I virtually never mention you. Our apparently increasing mutual disdain doesn't need to be constantly inserted into random threads. |

Jesus Chuck - just funnin'. You seriously need an injection of humor. There was nothing personal in that - in a million years you couldn't make something personal about that unless you really, really wanted to. And you were the one who insisted that there is a $10,000 market for $6,000 boats. Remember that? Come one man, I respect you and always have - you are knowledgable, if a little wordy, and I have never once blasted your articles when they were posted here. I may not agree with you on some issues, but I have never disrespected you. Well, ok, maybe the Bayliner thing but you deserved that. :) |

Well, ok, maybe the Bayliner thing but you deserved that. :) Tom- I'm sorry if I over reacted. Please accept this public apology for a rather nonproductive public comment. Taking daily shots from a couple of darn-nearly nonboaters who hang around here primarily to post off topic and make negative personal remarks has me overly sensitized. If I had my 'druthers, I'd just simply avoid name dropping in any of my posts and ask others to do the same. It's the topics that are important here, not the personalities. This is supposed to be a newsgroup. Observing that "Gould's an a-hole" is hardly news. :-) As far as a $10,000 market for $6000 Bayliners goes, some people might be very surprised at just how regional the market for that particular brand can be. Undoubtedly there are places where a boat that would bring $10k in the Pac NW would have to be dumped for $6k to find a buyer- but a boat is only worth (locally) what it will sell for (locally). I can't remember stating that some boat sold for $6,000 should have brought $10,000- as an ex yacht broker I would hesitate to assign a value to any boat without a personal inspection. I do admit to, and stand by, an observation that an advertised price for a boat that results in the phone ringing off the hook or the email box filling up almost immediately was likely too low. The boat market will never be a "seller's market" unless the seller makes an obvious sacrifice. |
