Jimmy, the public display of a donation in the Race for the Cure site is purely up to the individual making the donation. You seem overly concerned with that idea. Are you afraid your donation is going to show up, or what? I displayed my donation amount for two reasons, as proof that it was made, and as a challenge to anyone to beat it. Expect to receive a never ending stream of emails from him asking for contributions to all sorts of causes. I wonder what his take is?- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Is there some particular reason that you feel compelled to launch a personal attack on John H? ============= From what I have been able to see the old man has done his share of personal attacks on me. Let's say that's true. Did you enjoy being personally attacked? Did it improve the tone of the group? Was it useful, productive, informative, or even entertaining? Did you think more of less of JohnH after he attacked you? Do you suppose that attacking JohnH in retaliation will decrease the probability of future attacks on you in kind, or increase it? Does anybody know, or really care who "started it" , way back when? |

I wonder what his take is?- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Is there some particular reason that you feel compelled to launch a personal attack on John H? A remark that "a fundraising pitch for this charity or that might be somewhat out of place on a boating NG" is one thing- but calling him a "boatless old man", predicting an endless stream of spam emails from him, and accusing him of being "on the take" are all personality oriented responses. If you don't care for his use of the NG to drum up funds for apparently worthy causes, you have every right to express your opinion. (I don't care for the way some people use the NG primarily as a vehicle to make crappy personal remarks, and have expressed that opinion). But it's also my opinion that it would be more constructive to address John's observed behavior rather than speculate what he *might* do, and use that speculation as the basis for disparaging personal comments. I suppose he thinks his use of the 'boatless' term is bothersome to me. Somewhere along the way, he misread or miscomprehended something. The Chesapeake Bay is one of this country's great natural resources, and it is going down the tube quickly. As a member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, I've no qualms about posting both information and requests for help in the newsgroup. -- *****Have a Spectacular Day!***** John H- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Jimmy sure didn't like it when HE was boatless, and someone said something to him about it. That's true, and he really *was* boatless. I'm sure he misread something, which he's done many times. Actually, being boatless would be a boon to my finances right now. It's 'spring commissioning' time, which means tune up, etc. -- *****Have a Spectacular Day!***** John H |
