Thanks , Mike Actually, it is just as much based on the oil as the engine. If you use an oil that calls for 50:1, it will be fine. For example, I have a string trimmer that calls for 32:1 in the specs. I use a quality Husky chainsaw oil at 50:1 in it, still runs fine after 6 years. I would as another posted recommended, run a bit of extra oil for the first tank if not run for a while. Dan (danlw) |

If it has full roller bearings (likely) back it of fto 50/1. If not stay
at the 30ish ratio. TCW-3 far exceeds the specs of the oils of yesteryear. -W "Jeff Burke" wrote in message ... On Wed, 4 Apr 2007 20:59:33 -0700, "Danlw" wrote: "Michael" wrote in message ... Dan (danlw) Well! This might explain something I've run into. I have a 1957 Johnson 7.5HP AD-11 motor that is in pretty good shape, good compression and all. It calls for a mix of 16:1 using 30wt ND oil. I bought some modern 2 stroke oil (TCW3) and was told that the 16:1 mix was still the right ratio. Sure smokes a lot. Maybe I'll back off to 32:1 and give it a try. Would you think that this might be better than 16:1? |
