Adding a wiper kit

I've read a few reviews and haven't been impressed.

Has anyone added a deck-mounted wiper system to their boat and been happy with
it?

My boat is aluminum and the windshield wiper works well. It is mounted
under the dash and the actuator goes though the bulkhead. But the panel is
only 3/16 thick.

How long have you had it?
What make/model is the wiper motor?

Thanks

I have three AFI heavy duty setups on my boat and they are great. Be
sure to figure out what shaft length you need before purchasing. I use
the pantographic blades so they wipe a big, rectangular area.

Make sure the motor is properly fastened. The factory one on my Seaswirl
isn't. When you turn the wiper on, the blade just sits there. However,
under the panel... the motor assembly flaps back and forth "properly". :)

Silly boy. That's a design feature to keep the blade from wearing out.

I got tired of paying $18 a blade at the boat shop for "special" boat
wiper blades, so I "converted" the business end of the mechanism on my
parker to "non-special" autozone car wiper blades at $1.79 each.

Thanks! Any chance you have a motor model # -- I read some reviews on
westmarine (granted, not many) but they said they rusted up quickly.

thanks

sounds like a couple of loose bolts or stuck shaft... suprised the gears haven't
worn out yet.

Since the boat was new. Most Northwest boats come with heaters and
windshield wiper. Would have to look under the dash and see if there is a
name.

Mine has the flat blade that you run a screw through to lock it to the wiper
arm. Local autoparts store (Kragen) and I have to hacksaw off about 3".

No, have long since forgotten the model numbers, but you can just look
them up in AFI's catalog. West Marine branded products are cheap,
inferior versions that cost them a lot less and make them a lot more
profit. Stay away from anything branded for WM.
