If you are just planning a long block swap then the only manditory thing you
need to do is to remove all the cast (freeze) plugs and replace them with
brass ones. The iron ones will rust out in short order if you do not. I
forget but there may be some in the rear behind the flywheel. The rear cam
plug does not need to be brass. The cam is different as well but that is
not as much of an issue. You can swap cams if you want but that's a bit
more work and you'll have to get a cam change gasket set. Sort of a chore
on chevys as you have to loosen the front of the oil pan to get the cam
chain cover off.

Reverse Rotation Marine Cam! and possibly whatever changes you have to
do to your ignition depending on if it's a distributor or some of the
new distibutorless multi coil technology.

what about all the gaskets? dont they have to be so sort of marine grade?
thanx for ur help!

No recent marine engine has been built with a reverse rotation. I'm pretty
certain that no V6 reverse rotation was ever built. And I think it's safe
to assume he will be transfering the ignition, carb, alt, and other bolt on
accessories form the cracked marine engine.

YEAH, ill be changing over all the other accs. alt. carb. waterpump and such...

anyone know about the gaskets?

If you're in fresh water don't worry about it. If you're in salt water you
should know that marine engines do actually have stainless steel head
gaskets instead of regular ones. I guess I'd be a bit on the fence. You
flush it after use in salt water and it probably won't matter. If you're
leaving it in salt water in a slip then you probably should replace the head
gaskets. If you do that then I'd just go ahead and get a full marine gasket
set and change the cam too since the ss head gaskets are a big piece of the
cost of a marine gasket set.

No Chevrolet's anyway. More common w/ Ford & Chrysler.

Use a marine gasket set right off the bat - head gaskets are most important.

Head gaskets are important, but I use good 'ol Fel-Pro automotive most the
time, and they work great. Course, I had FWC on all those I did use them on.
Would not work for salt with raw water cooling.
