Celebrity Boat Carburetor problem

I've got a Celebrity boat which has been having carburetor trouble
lately. The carburetor is a Rochester Quadrajet Carburetor, Model
4MV, Rochester No.17083515. It is used on a 1985 Chevy Marine engine,
V6/229 cu.in./ 185 Hp. Droplets of gas can be seen in primary bores
(both sides) dripping from somewhere stalling out the engine after a
few minutes. A new carburetor ran fine for a year but the same
problem is back again. The original carburetor was rebuilt a few
times but the problem persists.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Eric

Do a rebuild on the carb. The needle and seat is leaking and/or the float is
heavy. Make sure the fuel pump pressure isn't too high. I think it should be
about 4-6 lbs.

A common problem with user-overhauled QJ is missing lower accel pump
spring. This will cause that symptom if the float level is slightly
high. Also, the carbs are very sensitive to correct float level. If it
has the foam float, toss it and get a brass one.

Sounds like a float issue. Do you have a full size spin on fuel filter? If
not add one and check your fuel tank for crud and water. A new carb should
last you many years.
