Dumb question about a small trailer repair..
 

Hi. I just got a little Jon Boat that's really great. But the trailer
looks like it came out of a junkyard. So I'm replacing a lot of parts
on it.
It has the two, carpeted wooden slats on it. However, the brackets
that
hold them onto the trailer are rusted off completely. I initially
thought of just replacing these brackets. But then I ran across these

""glide slicks"". They seem cheap, and would be much easier to replace
than to try and get the remainder of these rusted brackets off. Like
I said, it's a
really small, light boat. All aluminum. So it doesn't need much,
trailer wise. But there's not much holding it onto the trailer. It
just
sits on a couple of rollers. I am looking for more information on
brackets.

Hmmm... I just went to the West Marine site and dug until I found the
"Glyde Sticks", but copying and pasting the address to this message
didn't work. Anyway, it appears to me that you still need to replace
those rusted brackets and the bunk boards, because the "Glyde Sticks"
attach to the bunk boards.

I agree. The bunks and brackets still have to be fixed. My local boat
stores carry a wide selection of those galvinized parts. Most are pretty
generic.

As others have said, these items do NOT replace the brackets and bunks
(the carpeted wooden slats), they are just arttached on top of the
carpet. Assuming your trailer's frame is solid, you need to buy new
bolt-on bunk brackets (galvanized), a couple of pressure treated 2x4s
and some fairly inexpensive exterior carpet. I replaced mine with 1
foot off the 12' long carpet roll from Home Depot. The carpet was like
$5. This will cover two 6 foot long bunks. The glides are useful for
getting heavy boats on and off the trailer since they reduce the
friction between the boat and the bunk's carpet. Your jon boat should
not need that as it is probably pretty light.

DO NOT BUY ORESSURE TREATED for the bunks. Buy a cedar or redwood. The
copper in the PT can cause fast corrosion on an aluminum boat. Jon boats do
not need the plastic bunks and they can be easily slid on and off because
