VISTA: The Saga Continues...
 

Slowly I am reinstalling some of the software I used with Windoze XP. So
far, none of the major packages has failed to reinstall properly. A few
of the biggies already have "updates" for VISTA.

Just installed Nikon View. No update, the same version I used on XP.
Works fine. One of the only programs to date, though, that asked for a
"reboot" after the install.

Photoshop CS2 opens more quickly than it did under XP, but I would guess
that is more because of the upgraded CPU than the OS. Still, it is nice
to see it virtually "snap" open. My iPOD software works fine, as does
Roxio Media Creator 9 (except for one small app in the suite I don't
use). Diskeeper works with an upgrade. Quicken is fine. Acrobat
Professional works fine.

Efax Messenger does not work properly, but an upgrade is not expected
until April. Mailwasher works, as do the Mozilla products.

So far, no real problems.

Sure. Hey, I know that something about VISTA is likely to blow up in my
face, but so far, it seems to be working nicely. It has some neat new
features, too.

I've got my XP Pro machine just about ready to ship off to my
mother-in-law. That leaves me with an old clunker running XP Pro, my
laptop running Win2k, and the new machine running VISTA. My wife uses a
laptop exclusively while at home, and it runs XP Pro, too.

I asked because I just got an article about how to delay activation for up
to 120 days, using a built in feature of Vista. One reason you might want to
do this is if you were going to be making any hardware changes which would
make the OS fidgety. Want the article?

Nah. If I have any problems like that, I'll call Microsoft. I'm not
planning on a CPU, video card or RAM change. I did add in a new internal
hard drive yesterday, and as soon as I rebooted, the drive was "there"
and working properly.
