I set about reviewing the nav rules and did some basic
navigation exercises this morning which started me
wondering...

How many of us practice nav skills, review lights and
rules and just generally keep you hand in while the
boat is laid up for the winter?

Thought seriously about re-taking my Advanced Piloting course at the Power
Saqadron this winter.
My dad died when I took it first time around in 2002 so I dropped out at the
end and didn't write the test.
I waffled until mom got sick middle of January and then forgot about it.
I will re-do the course and get the sticker to attach to my 'diploma'.

"Boat laid up for winter?" Does not compute. :-)

But it's great that you're reviewing the lights, rules, etc. A lot of
people might think that a real pro doesn't have to review- but it's
the real pro, not the lubber, who *will* review.

Does using the GPS in the wife's car count? If not, then I'll admit I don't
spend a lot of time keeping my hand in navigating. Of course, as my boat is
now on the Rappahannock River and will probably never get out of Chesapeake
Bay, navigation skills don't have the priority they do for someone who
'sails the ocean blue'.

What?

I took a late afternoon spin in the inflatable today to get some more
time on the Honda 4 stroke. It certainly has a much different sound
than a 2 stroke, hard to tell if it's making proper revs or not.
