The lighthouse story did have some news value in addition to commercial puffery. The only way that companies can justify that kind of expense to their stockholders is if there is going to be some favorable public relations generated. |

Wayne, At this point, Harry is going to attack each and every post Chuck makes, it is Harry's MO. Harry resents the fact that Chuck finds Harry's cut and paste political articles (designed to start flame wars) so he is attacking Chuck each chance he gets. |

Then what's the problem with a fishing guide posting a puff piece here telling readers about the recent catches in his area of operation? Harry, that's the second time this thread that you have implied I complained about "spam" in response to a post from a fishing guide. When was this? I certainly don't remember the incident. Call me all the names you like, but don't just make stuff up to support your accusations. The lighthouse piece pizzed you off. OK. We also know several people disagree with your opinion and/or found it at least somewhat interesting. Tough excrement. You do understand I am not objecting to the lighthouse PR piece, but the hypocrisy I have seen exhibited here over boating/fishing related commerical posts. ROTFLMAO |

JELD-WEN, the world's leading manufacturer of reliable windows and doors, set out to help renovate one lighthouse this year with new windows and doors. However, due to overwhelming public support for this initiative, the company is embarking on a much larger mission. Well, it's a win-win for everybody. I'm glad Jeld-Wen stepped up. Good advertising for them, good for the general public. Yes, it's nice that someone is picking up the tab, but this is supposed to be a non-commercial newsgroup, and the way the news release was written, it is little more than an unpaid ad, right off the web site of the window company. "The world's leading manufacturer of reliable windows and doors." Yeah, right. Yeah - so what? They are doing something that benefits all - everybody wins. So who cares if they get some advertising - your in the promo biz - you should be able to understand that. Their windows are not the best, but they do supply Home Depot, so maybe the biggest maker. They win via advertizing and the lighthouses win via improved windows. |
