If the anchor is in the forward berth, it was not secured.

Yeah, been there, done that. Got a spare in a plastic laundry crate on
the starboard berth, along with 200' of 3/8" line.

I don't usually carry a spare unless we are gunkholing, in which case,
I know the tidal current is going to be screwing with me
unmercifully.... *then* I have a second... and *use* it!

Small spares come in handy at boaters' beaches.

crashing through the forward hull or deck....

The only thing that one should service regularly in the forward berth
is the anchor wench.

I usually lose one anchor a year to Bottom Dwelling Eater of Anchors, so
I always carry a spare.
