VRO tank Evinrude 50 hp

Should I take the Vro tank out of my boat and mix the oil manualy?
My outboard is 1992 50 hp. What goes wrong with this system if
anything.
Are there checks and maintenance that can be carried out.
Also on the primer solenoid valve what position should the lever be for
electric operation only.
Thanks

ted

that was a pretty good system when it worked, but ---they suffered "lot
rot" badly and tended to split the internal diaphrams. The oil lines
would also get brittle and leak. The replacement pump may be a little
pricy, so you might consider putting a replacement fuel pump on -in the
same location, from an earlier non VOR model, and mixing your own fuel.
Plug off the extra lines and choose a vacumn source for the new pump
from the same sourc that ran the fuel pump on the VOR. That should do
it.
