Tom, This is an amazing video, showing how this guy starts writing a
song while being interviewed, then they turn a girl that can't sing
into a pop star. Very interesting.

Thanks. I've seen something similar to that before but this was a lot
more specific.

One of my high school buddies has made quite a reputation as a data
forensics expert and he showed me something once that literally amazed
me. He gave me a flanger, a voice alteration device and two small
dictaphone type analog recorders. He had me go into another room and
record something - I could use any technique, vary the flanger and
voice machine, alter my voice physically - what ever I wanted. I read
a paragraph of MacBeth he had hanging around and I'll be damned if he
didn't take that tape and after about an hour of analysis,
manipulating and smoothing, got my voice out of the altered tape and
it exactly matched the recording I did without the disguise.

The technology is incredible. I've been messing around with sampling
and mixing software for some video I'm producing for my new website. I
can take a simple line of melody and basically turn it into a full
orchestra and chorus, expand the melody line - I can't wrap my mind
around all the different things I can do with this software and the
plug ins.

Amazing stuff.

On a similar note, have you ever seen the photo essay done by a
fashion photog who basically took a rather homely woman and turned her
into a drop dead gorgeous model? It's a pretty amazing essay on how
to manipulate a photograph. If you haven't seen it, I'll see if I can
find it and post it.

I think I've seen it, or something similar. My brother is really into
sound and does a lot of stuff similar to what you are talking about.
Really quite amazing when you think about that kind of stuff!
