On boat training-Oregon

Am looking for a captain to give me some lessons on my 38' Chris Craft
wooden boat. Insurance insists on it due to lack of experience in that
size boat. Looking for someon near the Oregon coast. Anyone help?

Are you buying your insurance through a marine insurance specialist?
The professional training is a very common requirement when a person
very new to boating buys a fair sized boat or even when an experienced
boater steps up to something 2-3 times the size of his or her previous
vessel. Because it is such a common requirement, most marine insurance
specialists will be able to refer you to a licensed captain willing to
do on-the-water training.

If you're buying through a car insurance agency, perhaps that insurance
broker doesn't have such a contact. You might find just the info you
need at your local marine insurance broker's, and while you're on the
phone you might ask for a second quote on insurance.

By the way- nice job finding somebody to insure a wooden boat. The
companies willing to do so are disappearing very quickly. My friends
who sell a lot of wooden boats report that financing is increasingly
harder to come by (the majority of purchases are now financed by a
second mortgage on a home) and that insurance is *very* tight.
