HOW DO I BY PASS THE IGNITION KEY ?
My ignition key has stopped working but the boat will start with a
screw driver across the starter. Can i run two wires from the soleniod to a push button switch ? I would leave the ignition switch as it is because it still shuts the motor off and i would fix it spring 2007. It just does not start the boat anymore. Thanks sonofadocker |

You can do that, but I can't imagine how it would be much easier than replacing the keyswitch. Before you go that far, though, there's a switch on your shift lever that you should check. It's there to keep you from starting the engine with the drive in gear. The switch contacts could be bad, or it could be like mine where the mechanical switch pusher gadget is kind of marginal and sometimes needs a little extra hand pressure on the pull-knob to make it work. |

Try wiggling the throttle a bit with the key turned to "start". -W |

From his past posts, this is a mercruiser with a 250 6-cyl, I/O that
he was having a really difficult time getting the starter changed, because he couldn't find an apropriate socket to fit the bolt heads. Unless, he's now working on a different boat.
