115 hp Evinrude, no compression in one cyl.

STOP

Run a can of Mercury "Power Tune" through it - as directed on the can.

You might get lucky. If not - perhaps one carb was clogged and fried a
hole.

I have a 1976 115 hp evinrude which has no compression in the lower rt
cyl. was running good all season until last weekend when i started it up
and it like back fired and stalled. fired right up but when i got into
open water it took like 5 minutes to get to full power. thought at
first i had bad gas but then pulled the plugs and found that the one
plug electrode was completely flattened. so i changed the plug with an
old one i had on board and it done the same. when i had the boat on the
trailer i changed the plugs and decided to check the compression in the
cyls just by putting my finger over the holes and found to have little
to no compression in the one cyl.
Any ideas what could of happened??? was thinking possibly stuck or
broken rings.. didnt pull head yet. what will happen if i run it like
that for like 3 more times out??? it will run ok it just takes a while
to get to full speed but i still notice some power loss.
Any idea what a re ring job will cost( i know... ballpark) hopefully
piston and cyl wall is still ok..
any help is appreciated...
thanx

Chances are you had a carb stop up and run the cylinder w/ no oil. I would
not recommend you continue to run the engine. No matter what the problem
was that caused it, you will further destroy the cylinder walls, possibly
stick the piston and break a rod, and do all kinds of other damage.

Tear it down and go from there.
