By the way, not to change the subject, but I went and looked at a new
pickup this morning - 2006 F-250 $x$ $uper Cab with the 6 liter
diesel.

Dunno - going to take the boat over tomorrow morning and test drive
the truck with the boat in tow.

Did you do the test tow?

I forgot to mention another thing about the 6.0L. They came out with an
upgrade to the engine control software (was installed on mine based on
recall). The software change causes the engine to have reduced emissions
when cold, but cuts back the power significantly until the engine warms up.
A side benefit is that it is a bit quieter at cold idle than before the
software update.

I noticed it right away after mine was updated. The next morning it felt
sluggish until it warmed up, then it ran normally.

Thought I'd mention it in the event that your tow test was with a cold
engine.

It towed fine - had no problems and I took it up the hill from the
dealership which is a pretty steep grade for about a half mile and it
handled it well.

I liked the interior - not completely happy with the color though.

Now, it's just a question of money.

Take a hammer to your piggy bank.

I doubt they would mention it because its now the normal way they are
supposed to run.
Interestingly, the recall notice explained that without the upgraded
software, the engine or emissions warning may *not* work when it is supposed
to.
