I am more comfortable when I remove the engine block plugs and the manifold
plugs and drain the water then replace the plugs.. I have a 5 gallon bucket
that I have attached a hose fitting to. I put in 2 gallons of antifreeze
and 2 gallons of water then run the engine with the muffs attached. Near
the end of the bucket full I spray fogging oil in the carb until it kills
the engine. Next I check the lower unit for good oil, not milky or watery
oil that could cause the lower unit to freeze and crack, or cause the gears
and bearings to rust.

Admittedly, it is a slight overkill, but after 30+ years of following this
procedure, I have never lost an engine block nor lower unit yet. I feel it
is cheap insurance.

I'll check the lower unit lube. I had the outdrive rebuilt last year so
unless something broke, it should be ok. Thanks.
