What's in the.......................
.........toolbox on your boat?
I carry over and beyond the basic tools plus a box of various stainless steel hardware (screws, nuts, bolts, washers, etc), a spool of electrical wiring and connectors/crimper, a 12v soldering iron and wire, a prop wrench and replacement prop, an emergency belt as well as various engine fluids. Sometimes none of these items will save you (as witnessed by my overheating incident this summer). However, it is nice to know some basic emergency repairs can be made and I don't have to bring tools to the boat when I work on it. So what is in your boat toolbox? |

Don't know how to answer this very well but under the front seats of my
little Chris Craft, I ahve a generic 140 pc. tool set, with a goodly range of screwdrivers. Vice-grips are a must. wire repair kit w.small roll of 10 ga. and 14 ga. wire. big crescent wrench, hammer, ohm meter, roll of duct tape, and roll of electrical tape. spare fuel filter. And even though I've never needed to add any, I carry an extra quart of motor oil. Oh yes. extra light bulbs for the trailer. Plenty to do emergency stuff on a lowly Scorpion 169 w, 3.0L JimH wrote: ........toolbox on your boat? The basics... screw drivers, sockets, open end wrenches, vice grips, duct &
electrical tape, wire. Also I carry one of those plastic ratchet type clamps for woodworking. I have a twin engine yamaha jet, and I've been told that if one engine quits, you need to limp back at no-wake speed so water doesn't enter thru the intake of the dead engine... winding up in the cylinders. The clamp is so I can pinch off the cooling line intake, and then run the good engine at a decent speed to get back. I'm sure though, when/if I break down, I won't have the right tool or part. Thank goodness for two engines. --Mike " JimH" not telling you @ pffftt.com wrote in message ... ........toolbox on your boat? So what is in your boat toolbox? Pretty much all the above except the prop wrench is a giant sized pipe wrench almost 3 feet long. (for emergency use only). Also, a Volvo diesel engine kit consisting of fuel, oil and air filters, belts, two new spare injectors and water pump impellers. Two spare Nibral ( 4 bladed 30x30) props held in a holder bolted in the engine room. Damn things weigh about 75 lbs each. Two rolls of Duct Tape. Eisboch |

So what is in your boat toolbox?
Two boxes. One regular toolbox, kept in the head's vanity cabinet for reasonably quick access. The other is a plastic ammo-box style one down in the engine compartment between the two engines. The stringers are spaced 'just right' for keeping it in place. There's also a generic 100pc socket set stowed in a cabin locker. The engine box has spare impellers, hose clamps, volt meter, long screwdrivers, duct and silicone tape, a hammer and the larger box wrenches needed for mounts and such. The regular box has various screwdrivers, pliers, and the same stuff you've got listed in yours. |
