As I was driving across the bridge on my way to put my pontoon boat in
storage for the Winter, this last Saturday, I looked upstream and saw two
guys on their jetskis wearing Parkas with hoods. I mean this is Northern
Illinois, and two weeks ago the water in the river was already down to 59.
Some people just have no common sense. But then, I remember way back when I
was a young man, I used to put my snowmobile suit on and take my motorcycle
for a run on New Years day just to give the neighbors something to talk
about.

The annual 'Polar Bear Run' on New Year's day is one of the big rides put
on locally by the Potomac Area Road Riders club. I've worn one-piece ski
suits several times. Last year the weather was great, but the registration
line was so long that my buddy and I just went for our own ride. Good time!

And I used to drive my MG-TD with the top down, even when it was snowing in
New York and I was only 20!

January in San Fransisco bay.. Coldest I had ever been in my life! (and
I was born in Pennsylvania).
My '58 TR-2 had been delivered from Hawaii, and I took delivery, and
went zooming down the freeway. Enough of the teeth chattering. I pulled
over, and got the side panels, and roof out of the trunk, and buttoned
it up, and found the heater worked. I didn't even know that stuff was
in there. The Good Lord watches over dumb animals.

The parka doesn't sound like a good way to have outfitted himself, but
certainly
nothing wrong with pwc'ing into the off-season, if one's properly
geared up. I'm still hoping for another couple rides this year before
I shut 'er down. I wear several layers of really warm clothing under a
dry suit with attached booties, plus thick neoprene socks, thick gloves
and neo hood, goggles, etc; pick your nice Indian-summer days and I'm
often surprised at how comfortable I'm able to stay even in conditions
that most people would not think of as good for being out on the
water....and I always think, boy those people are really missing out.
I've even fallen into the drink in several off-season outings like that
over the years, and even then was able to swim back to the 'ski pretty
comfortably, thanks to being properly suited up.
