I thought it was pretty funny actually.

If you bothered to read the comments, you might find that the
participants, once they got their minds around what happened, found it
to be pretty funny too.

What happened is that anybody can pledge, but there is no requirement
to back it up by credit card or other method.

So if somebody wanted to, he/she could pledge a certain amount along
with a message to the matching donor, it is matched and off goes the
email which is what happened.
