Tom, you seem a recent visitor to rec.boats and a fairly frequent poster.
My question for you would be why do you think that every regurgitation of
internet BS is worth a post? You really don't want to be like some folks
here who post 20-30-40-50 posts per day, and say nothing.

John, the rest of us know who Tom is and he has been around for quite a
while. In fact other than posting under a different nom de plume Tom has
a near uninterrupted posting history.

Tom was known as Shortwave Sporthishing in a former incarnation so
he's not all that recent, although certainly prolific.

You can always tell when it's starting to get cold in the northeast
and boredom is setting in. :-)

We're just getting in to the nice part of the boating season here in
SWFL now that the temperature has fallen back into the 80s and the
afternoon thunderstorms have let up.

For the record, I was bored.

Also, and this may turn into a rant, there is an amazing lack, with
certain exceptions, of any sense of humor among most participants
here in rec.boats.

In all the years I've been on Usenet, I have never, ever seen such
a complete lack of ability to just have fun with what the Internet
provides when things are slow and there is nothing going on.

Every post here, other than those that relate to the groups stated
purpose, has an intent to either make a political point or provoke
some kind of interpersonal war on a new front.

Despite the opinions of "TALK BOATS ONLY" types, there are times when
the issues of the day and personal/political/social polemics have to
take a back seat to just plain old being goofy - it keeps the heart
and brain healthy.

At 60 years old, a two tour combat veteran, college graduate, four
kids, a wife of 30 plus years, contributing to society as a volunteer
in several arenas, nice house, boats, cars, trucks, antique tractors
and my Corvette, I've earned the right to act as goofy as I want, when
I want and how I want and if I chose to post/share a couple of things
that I enjoyed so that perhaps others may enjoy them as well, that is
up to me. It's an open group and compared to some of the other crap
circulating here, this is mild and entertaining.

The fact that it annoys you when times are slow isn't relevant or even
important to me. If you wish to only participate in threads that
interest you or are related to boats, then fine, be my guest - I have
nothing but admiration for that.

But I like to do both as it stretches the imagination, gives insight
to personalities and creates a much more friendly atmosphere for
rational discussion rather than argument and disputation.

So take it for what you will.

Oh, by the way, the other "nick" was Shortwave Sportfishing. :)

Keep posting as you always have Tom. I enjoy your wit and humor. ;-)

Speaking of Ohio State, what's the over/under on when the entire
football team will be arrested for one thing or another? :)

Maurice is no longer playing for OSU and is safely locked away in jail. ;-)

Not yet. I want to go back and take a second look at the Islander 268
with twin 200 OX-66s.

The one with the single Suzuki DF-250 is most likely underpowered.
Unfortunately that year Islander is only rated at 400 hp total so I
can't double it up like I'd hoped.

That's odd...... Wasn't it YOU who a couple of weeks ago was whining
and crying about off topic posting? Again, you seem to have double
standards. Bipolar, perhaps?

Went and looked at a Sailfish 272 this afternoon, really nice boat
w/twin 225 Yammies, low hours. Unfortunately it's 9.5 ft on the beam
so you can't really trailer it, and I'd have to rebuild the boat lift.
Great boat though at a half reasonable price, might have to bite the
bullet and call the dock builders.
