Powerboat Sales Continue to Decline

dealership were down nearly 20 percent during the eight months ended
August 31, compared to the same period in 2005. As of the end of
August, the average dealer earned a net profit of 5.2 percent of
sales, compared to 6.5 percent of sales in 2005.


It has to be a soft (buyers) market now for both used and new boats. I
believe Chuck or Harry reported that the big boats are still selling well
though.

a year and a half ago, boats on Ebay were really selling for what I
would say "cheap" I would think it was because of the daily rising of
gasoline prices, that people were ditching them for what ever they
could get because it seemed like fuel would go through the roof, and
then some.

But this year, it seemed that with fuel at a peak level, that
compatable boats today, from a year ago, have been selling better in
the used market. I suppose it's possibly because people were getting
used to the fuel crunch, and figured that was the way it's going to be.
and so thought it would be something that would be worked into a budget
some how.

I suppose what I'm saying is that it seemed like there were more, and
better bargians to be had last year than now.
