GPS losing lock in US?

Here's an interesting tidbit.

Over the past couple of weeks, I've experienced a loss of GPS
satellite signals - in particular during the day. Basically, the
receiver (doesn't matter which manufacturer) loses lock and
you get a "no fix" message. It's happened maybe ten/twelve
times even in the middle of the lake or Bay.

When I went to the sat status screen, no signals or very weak signals
were indicated. Then the status screen would go green, the lock would
return and I get the fix.

I thought it was just me or maybe I wasn't used to the equipment I was
using, some of which was new to me.

I just read on one of the local email lists I belong too, several
messages concerning this same problem with other receivers.
Apparently, this is a mystery to everybody and according to one
message, is being reported to the manufacturers who are stating that
it's happening across the US and they have no explanation.

Anybody else have the problem?

Or any insight?



Maybe the feds are testing the selective availability. (they *do* have the
ability to block it to all but military) Maybe there's something they know
that they aren't telling us .... maybe .....

True. The truckers can't cheat anymore if GPS equipped. It tracks and
records all the truck movements and hours.

I haven't heard of any GPS issues, but then again I don't use it as
regularly as you do.
