Looking for a really long boot hook - where to buy..?

I'm looking for info on boathooks.. I've no experience of sailing / boating
at all - hence that's why I'm in here asking.

I'm looking for a really long - ideally telescopic boat hook.
The purpose for which I want it is related to work - At the site where I
work we have a really deep pit for the surface water outfall. In an attempt
to stop people needing to go into the pit I'd like to be able to reach into
the pit - using something like a telescopic boat hook - to retrieve any
debris (EG: plastic bags etc.) that blow into it.
The pit is about 10 metres deep

Can anyone point me in the direction of a UK based supplier of anything that
might meet my needs...?

Thanks in anticipation..
Simon.

I've never seen a boat hook longer than about nine feet when fully
extended. You may be better off with a grapling hook tied to a rope.

If you're looking for a regular one, go he

I should also add..

Problem with a grappling hook is I'm reluctant to let people go throwing one
down the pit.
There are pumps, cables and walkways down there..
We could be in the situation of trying to retrieve an item off a walkway
where a grappling iron would probably get stuck.. also I'm fearful of it
damaging something - I thought a lightweight telescopic pole with a hook on
t he end would give more control.

No boater would use a boathook 10 meters long.
You probably need something custom made.... possibly for window washers.

Also, snow rakes, for dragging snow off high roofs. Looks like a snow shovel
on a VERY long pole. Not telescopic, but they usually snap together with a
ball-in-hole arrangement, like the tubes on vacuum cleaners. Remove the snow
shovel thing and install something more appropriate.

Here's another idea. Someone, I know not who, makes very long telescoping
devices for changing light bulbs in high ceilings. I've seen one that is at
least 25ft long used at our church. I'm sure one could easily be modified
with a hook to meet your purpose.

I have one of those...aluminum tubes are a bit light, but if you're
snapping 6 or 7 together, I guess that's a good thing.

Check into equipment for swimming pool maintenance. Some pool cleaning

Go by a swimming pool company and get one of their wonderful telescopic
aluminum swimming pool handles for the leaf nets. Mine is about 8' long
telescoped in and 20' long telescoped out. It's so light you can hold it
out horizontal and it locks solid with the twist of the shaft, locking from
the inside. Tig weld or hoseclamp a hook on the end of it. Some of them
have threads in the end to screw the leaf basket to and I bet you could
screw a boathook into it there, too.

It's just about as long as you could ever hold out that far, but you can
telescope it out to whatever length is more comfortable, which makes it
even stronger.

Show me. The only one's I've seen (and own) are two sections. You
could, however take two of those, and alter them to MAKE four sections.

I have no idea if anyone makes them at all. You asked how a compressed

The trouble with your scenario is that each pole in succesion is a
smaller diameter. The fitting that connects the two pieces is only for
one size. It will not work in reverse.
