Depth Gauge problems

Hello,

I have just purchased a new boat recently and the depth gauge does not
work. The depth gauge is made by Faria and it is attached to an Airmar
P70 in hull transducer.

What happens is that the gauge Blinks and stays at zero all the time.
According to the manual for the gauge it says that if the transducer is
not plugged into the gauge properly it will "Blink". I have tried to
unplug the gauge and plug it back in etc... but it always blinks. Is
there a way to test both the gauge and transduser with a multimeter?
Also should the gauge blink if everything is plugged in properly but
your not in the water? I'm under the assumption that the gauge should
read zero when out of the water but not blink.

Thanks in advance
