This is the norm arrangement for any boat with a helm and steering
wheel, since your 12' Jon boat does not, you should not purchase this
motor and look for a OB with the throttle on the tiller.

that 4 hp is a sweet running motor but it does NOT have a shifter on it.
There is no shifting as it is always turning the prop. When you start it up
you have to know where you are pointed as it is always in gear. You have to
turn the motor 180° to go backwards. The throttle lever is on the side as
you can see from the pic.
