But when I got to this point in an article in the NYT about a Indian
state banning Microsoft products, I cracked up. I'm still laughing.

To wit:

"It is well-known that Microsoft wants to have a monopoly in the field
of computer technology. Naturally, being a democratic and progressive
government, we want to encourage the spread of free software," M. A.
Baby, the state's education minister, said by telephone."

Guys like that are the reason someone invented the vaudeville cream pie in
the face routine.

I don't get it. What is it you find so amusing?

Sounds to me like he's advocating the use of ONLY free software. Some free
software is good. But, there's a dark side: Open source products, some of
which end up being a train wreck. The Mozilla cluster **** is a prime
example, although it's finally maturing after many years of being a serious
mess.

Then, there's software you pay for which does exactly what it says it'll do,
all the time. Winfax, for instance.
