Local hydroplane doing very well this year!
The hydroplane that is sponsored by a consortium of Pacific NW marine
related businesses "Miss Boat Electric" is doing very well again this season. We finished second in the national standings last year, and with two races to go we're all but tied for first place this year. Photos etc at www.ulhra.org Recap: Miss Boat Electric Wins Seafair Race! National ULHRA Championship a Realistic Possibility Third year driver Michael Flaherty thrilled the enormous home-town crowds gathered near Stan Sayre's Pits on Lake Washington by piloting "Miss Boat Electric" to a convincing victory in the final heat of the prestigious SeaFair hydroplane race. "Miss Boat Electric" ran the course at an average speed of 112.819 mph, outrunning second place Al Carstensen in "MAACO of Bremerton" (107.234 mph). The 2005 National Champion, Greg Hopp in "Mikes Hard Lemonade" placed third in the race with an average speed of 105.729 mph. Other finishers in the final heat included Vince Xaudaro in "Graham Trucking Too" in 4th place, Paul Becker in "Miss Critical Logic" in 5th place, Mike Webster in "Red Hot took 6th place, and Wil Muncey finished 7th in "Power Punch". "Miss Boat Electric" followed her First Place win at SeaFair with a commendable showing at Silverdale, taking 2nd place in the final heat behind Ryan Mallow in "Mz Zip Fizz". "Miss Red Dot Corporation", driven by Brian Perkins, finished 3rd. Al Carstensen, driving "JefField Construction" placed 4th, and Mike Webster in "Red Hot" placed 5th. After winning all of his preliminary heats, Greg Hopp in "Mike's Hard Lemonade" broke a propeller in the final heat and did not finish. With two races remaining on the schedule (San Diego Sept 15-17 and Port Angeles Sept 30- Oct 1), just as in 2005, the 2006 national championship is hotly contested between "Mike's Hard Lemonade" (6579 season points) and "Miss Boat Electric" (6475 season points). The 2005 championship was not decided until the final heat of the final race, and this year's final standings are shaping up to be equally competitive. Running 3rd in national points standings so far this year is "Miss Critical Logic" at 4673 points and "Miss Red Dot Corporation" is running 4th at 3760.
