WD40 on fishing lures

The "Rusty Lures" thread included a discussion on the use of WD40 on fishing
lures.

I defer to SWRadio's opinion based on his extensive fishing knowledge and
experience that it is neither a fish attractant nor repellant.

Have you used it and if so, what were your results?

Does it at least mask human scent while acting as a rust preventative for
your lures?

How about the environmental effects of using a petroleum based solvent like
WD40, let alone eating fish that have ingested the solvent?

WD40 on fishing lures

It is illegal to use for fishing, at least in California. (Where most
everything is illegal)
