Had a first today.

Took a client out on a guided trip to Webster Lake for smallmouth and

As the morning progressed, we had done ok, nothing spectacular, but
just before we headed in, I set him up with a spinning reel and a
small 1/2 ounce Kastmaster to hit a spot that usually produces late in

He managed to chuck the thing into the overhanging trees and wouldn't
you know it - a really nice sized largemouth came out of the water and
grabbed onto the lure just as he was pulling it out of the water.

4 lbs of largemouth hanging off the Kastmaster about a foot in the
air.

I laughed so hard I almost fell out of the boat.

He managed to get free before I could get the camera - that would have
been a good one.

Speaking of fishing rods...........

.......My wife broke the tip off my favorite rod today. I keep my rods in
the corner of the garage propped up against the wall. This particular rod
somehow fell and landed on an open cooler (why it was open, I don't know).
She returned from working out this morning, saw the open cooler and closed
it without removing the tip of the rod first, breaking off the tip.

It was not an expensive rod but a good quality one piece graphite rod with a
great feel when fishing for walleye or perch. I bought 20 some years
ago.....it was my "Lucille". ;-)

Isn't that odd. My #2 son and his buddies decided to go fishing on
Sunday. He went out and bought a new rod/reel and left. Half an hour
later he was back looking for my old rod with Mitchel reel that I hadn't
used in about 15 years. Brings it back at 2100 hrs with the reel wind
handle broken. Seems one of his buddies caught a fish and laid the rod
on the ground behind my son. Robbie backed up, stepped on it, and that
was it.

Spinning or casting? Weight? Length?

The reason I ask is that I have a couple of spare graphite blanks and
would be glad to make one to replace it for you - gratis. Might take
a month or so because it would be a spare time project, but if you
want...

It is a rod for a spinning reel. Berkley Power Pole, R30-6, medium action,
one piece, 6 feet. Black foam grips.

I will respectfully decline your offer as it is certainly not worth your
time, effort. Understand, however, that your offer was, as I stated
earlier, really appreciated though.

I will certainly be happy to mail it to you for you to work on during the
winter and add to your rod collection. Postage is on me. ;-)

Seriously - I've got one sitting in the corner - it's a Loomis blank,
high modulus one piece medium action at 6 feet.

Hey - if you reconsider, I'll be glad to do it up for you. Any color
wrap, Fuji guides (get them at a discount don't 'cha know) and Fuji
graphite reel seat with foam grip.

This kind of thing I do for my own amusement - you never know what
style of wrap you might get though - could be anything from chevrons
to stripes.

In fact, I have three on order from a guy in Bimini - heavy game rods
that he wanted done in a red/white/blue motif. I've been trying to
figure out how to do the Union Jack in a rod wrap.

I'm almost there. :)

I will certainly be happy to mail it to you for you to work on during the

I've got more busted rods around here than you can shake a rod at -
get it - shake a rod at?

One of these days, I'll get around to repairing them and give them
