Hmmm, don't know about that "rafters should wear an old hat" part...
How about a well-fitting helmet with maybe a sun visor instead?

Sitting on the outside of the raft is the safest, Mr. Breuer says.
Sitting on the inside will cause a person to lean out of the boat.

How about "Rocks should be avoided whether inside or outside of the
raft," I really hate those rocks inside rafts.
