Max Rpm for Yamaha 04 225
I recently bought a Sea-Pro 22CC with a Yamaha 4-Stroke 225
Im wondering what the maximum operating range for this engine would be? The manual I got says the Max RPM is 5000~6000 but that isnt really that specific. Im thinking the max RPM is WOT RPM? Does anyone know if this is a downscaled 250 and if it is a strong engine that could mabe stand the stress of periodic bursts of speed? Ive bin running my boat out lately and at 3200 rpm its only getting 22 mph (with three people and almost 90 gallons of gas). Im thinking such a small boat with quite a over sized engine as the manufacuter suggests a 150-200 engine that the boat would be capable of higher speeds without damaging the engine? Also im wondering if the trim is having an adverse effect on the engine, I usualy tilt it all the way down to get plaining so i can see infront of me and tilt it up a bit after to get a better speed but it only changes about 1mph. Im fairly new to outboard engines and larger boating in general so any help or advice is greatly appriciated. Thanks |

If you prop it to make 5500 WOT you're bound to be good. Try running it at
4000-4500 for more speed. -W wrote in message ups.com... I recently bought a Sea-Pro 22CC with a Yamaha 4-Stroke 225 Im wondering what the maximum operating range for this engine would be? Yamaha recommends propping the boat in the upper 1/2 of the motors operating range, which for your motor is 5500-6000 rpm. With a full tank of fuel, a normal load of people, and any gear, coolers, ice, etc. make sure the motor runs at least 5500 rpm. Your motor is built for long runs at high rpm if that is what you want to do. Most boats cruise at around 4000 rpm. The 250 is a completely different design than the 200-225 motors. Harry Krause wrote: I have one of those engines, on a larger, much heavier boat than yours. At WOT, I can run the engine up to 6000 RPM without any difficulty. I don't do it very often, though. Your best cruise RPM probably is 4000 RPM, or between 4000 and 4500 RPM. The engine runs very nicely at those speeds. You should be getting more than 30 mph at those RPMs. What are you using to determine boat speed? The Tach on the boat seems to always gum up the guy who sold us the boat told us it hardly ever works. He installed a Fish finder with a depth finder aswell as a built in tach with a little wheel at the back of the boat. Like you see on most jet ski's, Im not sure how the original one on the boat works. Thanks for the replys I feel more comfortable running the engine at faster rpms now. |

A *general* rule of thumb for most outboards is to prop for 5500, daily
cruise at 4000, and idle as low as it can get and not die when you put it in gear. Bill's info was more product specific, and therefore more correct. Not that his numbers made me wrong, but his info is more right. :) -W wrote in message oups.com... Harry Krause wrote: I have one of those engines, on a larger, much heavier boat than yours.
