Thoughts on Carb cleaners??
I have a 94 mercruiser w/ carb... I have heard from a few people that i
should not use the carb cleaner occasionally. (the type that you pour into the gas) Any truth to this, what do you guys think? |
Thoughts on Carb cleaners??
I trased a year old (rebuilt) carb... not sure if it was the carb
cleaner or the gas stabilizer or the combination BUT... if it ain't broke... don't fix it. oelf92 wrote: I have a 94 mercruiser w/ carb... (the type that you pour into the gas) Any truth to this, what do you guys think? I'm not ready to totally believe the carb cleaner you describe could be the problem but the pick up tube in my 6.5 gallon outboard tank has disappeared twice in the last month since I added the cleaner/stabilyzer to the tank. All I could find was the little aluminum filter that inserts in the end of the tube. Also, I poured some of this gasoline in a throwaway plastic drink cup to throw on some brush to start a fire and before I could walk 30 ft to the brush, the cup dissolved. I've never had gasoline be this aggressive before. I bought a new tank today and the boat dealer said they had some problems with pick up tubes but found it hard to believe it would completely dissolve. The tube on the new tank is of completely different design and looks to be a tougher, stiffer material. Tom G. |
