Rocks/Sand in the thermostat

We're talking about the MANUFACTURER - the company that makes the thing.
There's a thing in your house with 12 buttons. You press some of them and
then talk into it. You can use it to communicate with the MANUFACTURER.

Actually the reason I havent taken it to the dealer is because I trust
no-one to work on my engines other than myself

Another is the

That's easy. He's embarassed to tell them, just like you or I would
be.

They'll tell him to stop running in shallow water, and by the way,
your warranty is void.

mmmmmmm the manufacturer. gee I would have never thought about it. I guess
looking at about a dozen other alpha 1 sterndrives and not seeing a screen
at the intake ports would not be enough. Unless of course there was a lot of
screwups at the manufacturer that day. SO just for the giggles I called up
Merc today. Guess what, There is no screen on the alpha 1 2nd gen..
Ok so now I have contacted the manufacturer , any other ideas
Oh and as a foot note ( thats the small print at the bottom of the page in a
book) Im so glad to see that you learned how to count. I can only guess that
you did not have to use the same fingers twice.
WTF I cant believe that someone elses sarcastic behavior is causing me to
act like this

Sarcastic??????? It took you 6 days to call the mfr, after it was
suggested numerous times in this discussion. But, never mind. You've got the
answer you need, even if it's not the one you want: You have to stop using
the motor in ways it was not intended for.

The fact that the manufacturer merely replied that they didn't put
them on doesn't mean much..... I wonder if the factory service reps
have ever heard of this problem before.... if so, could there be a
fix?

Assuming that you don't have a handful of these rocks already inside
of and moving around in the engine....

.... then you are picking them up each time you get in shallow
water.....

Only things left are (1) Make your own screen or (2) Stop in 5 feet of
water and pole your way in to shore and then out again.

I don't see any other options. But I am still mystified by WHAT is
bringing these particles off the bottom to be sucked into the intake.
There's just something about that, that doesn't make sense.

I wonder if he has polled other users of the same beaching spot to see
if they are having similar problems.
