Sorry to hear that Don. We were in a rainy pattern in May but finally got
out of it. We now gone to the other end of the scale, with no rain for the
past 2 weeks.

Your time will come. I am sure you are itching to get out on the boat
though.

BTW: Some humor about Alberto for you:

From the Jay Leno Show:

Alberto was in the Gulf of Mexico moving north towards Florida. Not the
hurricane. A guy in a raft from Cuba. He's got a good right hand.

I'm sure you know, there's a big storm named Alberto heading towards
Florida. On CNN they said that Florida residence should have a survival plan
to take care of themselves. You know, in case FEMA shows up.

That's the name of the hurricane, Alberto. See even the hurricanes are
getting smarter. They know a Hispanic hurricane has a better chance of
getting into the U.S.

Depends on how deep they have to drill. We put a well in a few years ago
because the sprinkler costs were getting ridiculous. (They are installed in
both the lawn and horse paddock areas). The well drilling guy told me they
try to get a well to produce at least 12 gals/min. They had to go down 512
feet for ours and finally hit paydirt ... or paywater and got over 20
gals/min. He said they hit an aquifer and we now had an artesian well that
tests purer than the town supplied water.

It paid for itself in about 2-3 years in our case.

Our water/sewer bill for the year is normally about $350. We have a lawn
sprinkler system that runs 3.5 hours x 6 days (6 zones one day, 6 different
zones the next) throughout the summer and early fall. Add to this the water
demand for a family of 3.25 (our daughter is only with us on an occasional
basis now) and I guess we have a pretty sweet deal.

If I were to ever build new on the (fresh) water, the river or lake would
serve as the water supply for the lawn sprinkler system. ;-)

In your case, it sounds like you struck gold Richard.

This month has been unbelievably bad. Probably five days of rain vs 2
days cloudy skies each week. No spring...sure hope summer is better.

We don't need them in the spring either, but by mid-summer everything dries
up. When Mrs.E has the horses here, they will destroy the pasture grass in
the paddocks in a matter of a week with no water. Plus, the well supplies
the barn, wash station and drinking water for them. Horses use a lot of
water.

Hey, Jim likes you now. A few days ago he was calling you names. Well,
you and everyone else here! I'll have to mark my calender, so I'll know
when it's "that time of the month"!

ot What the...more rain?

We don't water ours at all. The drier it gets, the slower it grows, and
the less I have to mow...

Notice how often all this rain misses the DC area? I'd love to have some
of
and save some bucks on my lawn watering bill!

Dig a well.

At about $150 per quarter, how long would it take me to break even?

Depends on how deep they have to drill. We put a well in a few years ago
because the sprinkler costs were getting ridiculous. (They are installed in
both the lawn and horse paddock areas). The well drilling guy told me they
try to get a well to produce at least 12 gals/min. They had to go down 512
feet for ours and finally hit paydirt ... or paywater and got over 20
gals/min. He said they hit an aquifer and we now had an artesian well that
tests purer than the town supplied water.

It paid for itself in about 2-3 years in our case.

I might have to water the lawn two or three times in an average
summer...certainly not in the spring.

Bingo! Down here, I've got Bermuda in the front where the sun hits it
hard, and I never water it. Stay's decently green when dry, rain just
makes it a little brighter and faster growing.

Up here, Bermuda is considered a serious weed!
