Merc 5 HP motor, reverse lever busted..

My son knocked over my Merch 5 HP motor..it landed on the shift lever and
busted it to bits (plastic)...new one is in, but I'm wondering if anyone
can give me some guideance on how to replace it...I'm pretty handy so I'm
not stressed..just looking for an overview.
