of a dealer's diagnostic software disk that costs several hundred dollars to
buy. Is that right?

Which illegal copy are you looking for, the serial port version, or the USB
port version?

What about the interface cable and adapter? Do you need that too?

How about a booklet that shows how to use the diagnostic software, that also
needed?

Of course if you are planning on purchasing the above items legally, your
local authorized Yamaha dealer can order the stuff for you. If they don't
want to, there are a number of dealers that advertise in the back of boating
magazine and/or sell online.

Why should the dealers be the only ones that can obtain the tools needed
for maintaining the $20,000 motor I purchased? Or, did I just purchase a
right to use for a period of time with the requirement that I enormous
amounts of money at a dealership to have my motor maintained?

I hope you are not directing your comments to me.

I believe the manaufacturer should allow their customers to buy the same
service manuals and special tools as the dealer does, if they want to. It is
the individual dealers that may have a different policy, and the nice thing
about that, there are many other dealers who will sell to you.
