No it doesn't make for good behavior, and I didn't imply anything of

Take a walk down the halls of any school. They're talking that way in 7th
grade. If corrected, the 7th graders will apologize. By the time they're
9th graders, they for sure won't apologize. I had one kid say, "F... you!"
right in my face. He got suspended for a week, but that just makes him
famous.

Very often people will engage in bad behavior simply because it makes them
famous amongst their 'peers'.

Perhaps. Here they seem to do a good job of creating values that are
conducive to getting a decent education and later a job. Our local
highschool is always at or close to the top of the various education
games, debates etc. The *popular* ones here are the ones who rise to
the top academically. At any rate, I doubt that they talk about their
breath smelling like they've had oral sex with a disease ridden
Phillippino prostitute.... and given that this rec.boats is open to
anyone, I don't think such comments are appropriate.

Only a small percent of the population engage in 'bad' behavior. But the
numbers are big enough to be noticeable. Every school has it's winners and
losers. The winners are popular with winners, the losers with losers. There
are often conflicts between the winners and losers because of envy.
Threatening behavior and intimidation will sometimes allow losers to drag
folks down to their level of performance.

That is the shame of it all.

I totally agree.
John H's comments were likewise correct. A teacher gets cussed at and
the kid is a hero to his peers. When I was in high school, a kid
through an M-80 in a trash can jsut to impress his other low-life
dudes, and it sent a piece of shrapnel into a girls arm. He was
deffinately kicked out of school, as well as being arrested. One thing
I remember, is when the police cane to pick the kid up, they hand

Yep, again, if you choose to associate with thugs, you will hear that

That's odd. I've ran gas stations in my youth, and the women's restroom
was always much better than the mens, cleanliness and graffiti wise. If
you want to talk, and act like a street thug, have at it. If you want

Although not *technically* swearing, many bodily functions are
condidered profanity. You know... ****, ****, ****, stuff like that (I
wonder why not "puke" it's four letters and disgusting ... but I
digress). So he should have said "women may be offended by your foul

Although not *technically* swearing, many bodily functions are
condidered profanity. You know... ****, ****, ****, stuff like that (I
wonder why not "puke" it's four letters and disgusting ... but I
digress). So he should have said "women may be offended by your foul
language and/or profanity".

I, OTOH, replied with a proper swear word.

I agree!

When he's taken his meds or whatever happens, he can be decent to most
people, and posts on topic or at least good stuff. It's when he goes
off on one of those bipolar tangents that things get ugly. I'm not sure
he even realizes how much he's alienated himself!
